Introduction

ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1 deals with requirements applicable to the design, fabrication, inspection and testing of pressure vessels operating internally or externally. This pressure may be obtained from an external source, or by the application of the heat from a direct of indirect source, or any combination thereof. Specific requirements apply to several classes of material used in pressure vessel construction, and also to fabrication methods such as welding, forging and brazing.

Based on the rules for pressure vessel design and construction, this training course is a comprehensive introduction to the requirements of Section VIII, Division 1 including background, organisation, design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing and documentation of pressure vessels. The more commonly used subsections and paragraphs will be covered, and a discussion of individual problems or situations will be included.

Delegates attending this GLOMACS ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Design & Fabrication of Pressure Vessels training course will develop the following competencies:

  • Understand the background of the Code rules
  • Apply the Code rules to more common design and fabrication situations
  • Perform calculations for loadings and situations not addressed by the Code
  • Prepare design specifications, design/data reports, and other documentation

Objectives

Participants of ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Design & Fabrication of Pressure Vessels training course will:

  • Understand all the requirements of pressure vessel component design based on ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1, 2022 edition
  • Focus on performing calculations autonomously to determine the minimum wall thicknesses of all the main components of pressure vessels based on pressure and design temperature.

Training Methodology

ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Design & Fabrication of Pressure Vessels training course will combine presentations with Instructor-guided interactive discussions between participants relating to their individual interests. Practical exercises, video material and case studies aiming at stimulating these discussions and providing maximum benefit to the participants will support the formal presentation sessions. Above all, the instructor will make extensive use of case examples of issues in which he has been personally involved.

Who should Attend?

This ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Design & Fabrication of Pressure Vessels training course is primarily intended for beginners involved with the purchase, design, fabrication or inspection of pressure vessels. Experienced vessel designers, who would like to update their knowledge of the Code, will also benefit.

Though some technical background will be helpful, attendees are not required to have an Engineering degree or previous work experience in the subject.
